Firepit Fire in Hillcrest?
1/5/2022 (Permalink)
SERVPRO® of Centre City/Uptown offers these tips for Hillcrest residents for having safe and fun, fire-damage-free outdoor recreational fires from the National Fire Protection Association:
It is important to remember that embers blowing from a backyard fire pose the same threat to your home as if they are from a wildfire. Start with these simple steps to reduce the ignition risk, like:
- Cleaning out gutters of seasonal debris
- Clearing away leaves and needles in the 0-5 foot “immediate zone” around the house
- Moving any flammable material away from wall exteriors, like mulch, flammable plants, firewood piles
- Remove anything flammable stored underneath decks or porches
Rules for outdoor recreational fires in San Diego:
- A recreational fire of a maximum of 3 feet in diameter and 2 feet in height must be a minimum of 25 feet from a structure. A fire in an approved container can be no less than 15 feet from a structure. Conditions that might cause the fire to spread must be eliminated.
- The fire must be constantly attended while burning. A fire extinguisher or other extinguishing equipment shall be available to be used immediately.
- Portable outdoor fireplaces are to be used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and shall not be operated within 15 feet of a structure or combustible material
