Powerful Storm Brings Thunder and Lightning to Centre City?

2/13/2024 (Permalink)

Lightning can be seen from a window. We restore storm damage 24 hours a day in San Diego.

Do you know that you can get struck by lightning while indoors? It’s true! Our local Centre City/Uptown team wants everyone to be safe when lightning strikes. Here's how to ensure your safety while indoors:

Avoid Corded Electronics: Lightning can surge through electrical wiring and cause damage to electronics or start fires. Avoid using corded appliances, computers, and telephones during a storm. Unplug them to be extra cautious.

Stay Away from Plumbing: Lightning can also travel through plumbing, so avoid taking showers, baths, or using sinks during a storm.

Don't Touch Conductive Surfaces: Refrain from touching conductive surfaces like radiators, metal pipes, and stoves, as lightning can follow these paths.

Use Surge Protectors: Invest in surge protectors to safeguard your electronic devices and appliances from power surges caused by lightning strikes.

Stay Away from Windows: Avoid standing near windows, as strong winds and flying debris can shatter them during a storm.

Wait It Out: Wait at least 30 minutes after the last clap of thunder before resuming normal activities. Lightning can strike even after the rain has stopped.

By following these safety guidelines and staying informed about weather conditions, you can minimize the risks associated with lightning strikes while inside a dwelling.

Uptown San Diego Residents Prepare Emergency Supplies in Advance of Big Storm?

12/12/2023 (Permalink)

Emergency supplies sit on a counter in preparation for a major storm. We respond to storm damage emergencies 24 hours daily in San Diego.

Our Centre City/Uptown team wants everyone to be ready to withstand a major storm. Preparing for a big storm in Uptown San Diego involves having a well-stocked emergency kit that can sustain you and your family for at least three days. While San Diego generally experiences mild weather, it's still important to be prepared for occasional storms, heavy rain, power outages, and other potential emergencies. Here's a list of essential emergency supplies to keep on hand from the United States Department of Homeland Security:

Water: Plan for at least one gallon of water per person per day for drinking and sanitation. Store enough for three days.

Non-Perishable Food: Include a three-day supply of non-perishable, easy-to-prepare food items. Examples include canned goods, dry fruits, nuts, granola bars, and canned soup.

Manual Can Opener: Make sure you have a manual can opener if you include canned food in your emergency supplies.

Battery-Powered or Hand-Crank Radio: A NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert capability is ideal for receiving weather updates and emergency information.

Flashlights: Pack several flashlights with extra batteries. Consider LED flashlights for longer battery life.

First Aid Kit: Include essential first aid supplies, such as bandages, antiseptic wipes, adhesive tape, pain relievers, and any necessary prescription medications.

Personal Hygiene Items: Pack items like soap, hand sanitizer, toothbrush, toothpaste, feminine hygiene products, and moist towelettes.

Warm Clothing and Blankets: Have warm clothing, including layers, gloves, hats, and blankets or sleeping bags to keep warm during cold weather.

Cell Phone Charger: A portable battery charger or a solar-powered charger can help keep your mobile devices charged.

Important Documents: Keep copies of essential documents, such as identification, insurance policies, medical records, and emergency contact information, in a waterproof container or a digital format on a USB drive.

Cash: Have some cash on hand, as ATMs and card readers may not work during power outages.

Tools: Include basic tools like a multi-tool, wrench, pliers, and duct tape.

Maps: Local maps can be helpful for navigation if you need to evacuate or find alternative routes.

Extra Clothing: Pack extra clothes, including sturdy shoes and rain gear, especially if the storm involves heavy rainfall.

Pet Supplies: If you have pets, include food, water, medications, and other supplies for their needs.

Entertainment: Consider items like books, board games, or playing cards to keep yourself and your family occupied during downtime.

Special Needs: If you have infants, elderly family members, or individuals with specific medical needs, ensure you have supplies and equipment to meet their requirements.

Emergency Contact List: Have a list of emergency phone numbers, including family members and local authorities.

Backup Power Source: If you have critical medical equipment that requires power, consider a backup power source like a generator or an uninterruptible power supply (UPS).

Regularly check and refresh your emergency kit to ensure that items are in good condition and within their expiration dates. Additionally, create a family emergency plan that outlines communication and evacuation procedures, and stay informed about local emergency alerts and weather updates during storm events in San Diego.

Eucalyptus Tree Branches Fall and Damage Homes in San Diego During Windy Conditions?

8/29/2023 (Permalink)

A Eucalyptus tree is shown leaning over. We restore wind damage 24 hours a day in San Diego County!

I remember being blown around by the gusty winds one summer and hearing the crack and fall of Eucalyptus tree branches all around the properties below mine. One branch crashed into the side of a home and broke a window. Thank goodness no one was hurt.

Our local Centre City/Uptown team has been restoring wind and storm damage in San Diego for many years. Along with the Santa Ana Winds, coastal and frontal winds also affect our region and can cause property damage.

Eucalyptus trees are notorious for dropping branches, especially during high wind events and drought conditions. Regular pruning of dead and weak branches can help prevent potential hazards.

If possible, maintain a safe distance between the Eucalyptus tree and the house. This will help reduce the chance of falling branches causing damage. If the tree is too close, consult with an arborist about potential solutions.

Be extra cautious during severe weather events, like strong winds. Be sure to secure loose objects or moving vehicles away from the tree.

7/25/2023 (Permalink)

A tropical storm is blowing in from the Pacific Ocean. We restore storm damage 24 hours a day in San Diego!

The Pacific hurricane season begins on May 15th and ends on November 30th each year. By the time these powerful storms reach our shores, they are usually downgraded to tropical storms. • Homes and businesses may be damaged when a strong storm moves onshore
  • In addition to damaging property, these winds can cause damage to the natural environment, knocking down trees and causing coastal erosion along the beaches

Pacific Hurricane Season Brings Tropical Storm to Little Italy?

6/27/2023 (Permalink)

Storm clouds gather above palm trees. We restore storm damage 24 hours a day in San Diego!

Our local Centre City/Uptown team is a trusted leader in storm damage mitigation and restoration services. We have been restoring property damage in Little Italy for many years, and we know that our fast emergency response time saves our customers time and money in many cases.

Each year, the Pacific Hurricane Season begins on May 15 in the eastern Pacific Ocean and on June 1 in the central Pacific, with both ending on November 30. The National Weather Service of Mexico predicts 16 to 22 named storms and 7 to 11 major hurricanes to develop this 2023 season. These predictions are based on above-average sea surface temperatures across the eastern Pacific and the possibility of a strong El Niño developing.

The only recorded hurricanes to hit California occurred over 100 years ago. In 1854 a tropical cyclone system made landfall over northern California just north of the Golden Gate Bridge and in October of 1858 the San Diego hurricane passed very close to southern California. Although hurricanes have not made landfall in California recently, monsoonal moisture does travel north, bringing tropical storms to our region.

How Can I Prevent Storm Water From Entering My Home in North Park?

12/20/2022 (Permalink)

A downspout drains water during a storm. We are trusted leaders in storm damage restoration in San Diego.

Last month, San Diego County received between one and six inches of rain when a storm out of the Gulf of Alaska merged with moisture from the sub-tropics. Our local Centre City/Uptown responds to storm damage emergencies 24 hours a day. Here are some tips from the Insurance Information Institute to keep your home protected from unwanted water intrusion:

Inspect and Repair Your Home’s Exterior

You can prevent water from entering your home by inspecting your home’s exterior for any place where water can enter the house and making repairs as needed.

  • Caulk and seal windows
  • Inspect the roof for missing and aging shingles
  • Check your rain gutters and remove any debris that may be clogging them
  • Check your downspouts and clear any clogs and make sure they are draining away from the house
  • Gutter guards are an excellent way to prevent clogs and water intrusion into the house
  • Check your sprinkler systems and make sure they are not spraying water into the house and that water is not pooling around the home’s foundation
  • Make sure water drains away from the building.Water is invasive and will quickly find its way into a structure when water is allowed to pool around the foundation. After a storm, or when the ground is already saturated by rainwater, the water may enter the foundation wall through cracks.

Lightning Strikes in North Park?

11/15/2022 (Permalink)

Lightning lights up the night sky during a thunderstorm. We respond to storm damage emergencies 24-hours a day in San Diego!

Last Fall season, over 100 lightning strikes were recorded across the greater San Diego area. Our local Centre City/Uptown team is trained to mitigate and restore storm damage quickly and efficiently in North Park. Here are some lightning safety tips  to keep you safe the next time lightning strikes:

  • Avoid isolated tall trees, hilltops, utility poles, cell phone towers, cranes, large equipment, ladders, scaffolding, or rooftops
  • Avoid open areas, such as fields
  • Never lie flat on the ground
  • Retreat to dense areas of smaller trees that are surrounded by larger trees, or retreat to low-lying areas but watch for flooding
  • Avoid water, and immediately get out of and away from bodies of water
  • Avoid wiring, plumbing, and fencing. Stay away from all metal objects, equipment, and surfaces that can conduct electricity.
  • Do not shelter in sheds, pavilions, tents, or covered porches, as they do not provide adequate protection from lightning
  • Seek fully enclosed, substantial buildings with wiring and plumbing. The interior wiring and plumbing in modern buildings will act as an earth ground.
  • A building is a safe shelter as long as you are not in contact with anything that can conduct electricity (e.g., electrical equipment or cords, plumbing fixtures, corded phones). Do not lean against concrete walls or floors (which may have metal bars inside).

How Can I Tell if My Roof Has Storm Damage in South Park?

10/11/2022 (Permalink)

An asphalt roof shows visible signs of storm damage. We respond to storm damage emergencies 24-hours a day in San Diego.

San Diego County is exposed to various weather conditions throughout the year. Santa Ana winds, monsoonal moisture, and storms can roll in from the Pacific Ocean with little advanced warning. Inspecting your roof for visible damage after a storm is always a good idea in South Park. Our Centre City/Uptown team offers these roof inspection tips:

Visible Signs of Storm Damage From the Ground

  1. Collection of shingle granules – If you see an abundance of asphalt granules in your yard and landscaping, your roof has storm damage.
  2. Clogged Gutters – Leaking and clogged gutters often indicate roof storm damage. Unrepaired damage can cause your roof to leak and may cause foundation damage if the water is not draining away from the structure.
  3. Property damage – If your vehicles and property show signs of damage, your roof may have storm damage, too.
  4. Broken, cracked, and missing shingles – Check for missing and damaged shingles, including curled, cracked, or torn shingles. Wood shingles can show signs of splitting, curling, or decay, and low-slope roofs can have cracks, tears, wrinkles, and blisters.

8/30/2022 (Permalink)

A person is cleaning leaves from a roof gutter. We respond to storm damage emergencies 24-hours a day in San Diego.

Our Center City Uptown team has been restoring storm damage in Old Town for many years. Properly installed and debris-free rain gutters can be instrumental in protecting your home from water intrusion during a storm. Here are some tips for determining if your home has damaged rain gutters:

Inspect your rain gutters for visible signs of cracking

  • Use some binoculars to inspect for smaller cracks
  • If you see extensive cracking; replacement is required

Inspect gutter seams

  • Look for damage where two horizontal sections meet

Inspect your home’s paint job

  • If there is evidence of paint peeling; itmay point to rain gutter failure
  • Check the section of the rain gutter closest to the paint damage for leaks
  • If there are more than a couple of leaks; you may want to replace the rain gutters

Inspect your home’s exterior wood elements for rotting windowsills or door jambs

  • You may have clogged rain gutters or inadequate storm drainage

Inspect the exterior of the house for mildew damage

  • If there is moisture accumulating around or near the foundation, mildew can grow. This is a sign your rain gutters are not working properly.

Howling Winds Scaring Pets in North Park?

6/21/2022 (Permalink)

A dog hides under a blanket during a storm. We respond to storm damage emergencies 24-hours a day in San Diego.

Yes. Pet anxiety is real, and our furry friends can get very anxious when thunderstorms or the Santa Ana winds whip through North Park. Our Center City Uptown team has been mitigating and restoring storm-damaged properties in San Diego for many years. Here are some tips from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) for managing your pet’s anxiety during a severe storm:

According to the ASPCA, there are many things you can do at home to help your pet. Please note that one thing does not work for all pets—so keep trying and see what works.

  • Keep calm! Your dog is aware of your emotions; they are more likely to get upset if you are.
  • Let them hide. Let them stay there if they prefer to stay under the bed, in a closet, or bathroom.
  • If your pet does not have a place to hide, consider creating a safe place for them. Interior rooms with less noise or flashes of light are a good place to start.
  • Try distracting your pet by playing games. You can turn on the TV, play soft music, or give them a food puzzle or kong filled with their favorite item are all great ways to distract your pet.
  • Anxiety vests or shirts may also help your pet feel calmer

Flying Tree Branch Damages Apartment Home in Centre City?

5/17/2022 (Permalink)

A tree branch from a Eucalyptus tree is seen. We remove fallen trees and branches 24-hours a day in San Diego County.

Our Centre City Uptown team is a trusted leader in storm damage mitigation and restoration services. The strong Santa Ana winds and tropical storms that occur during the Pacific hurricane season can send tree limbs and patio furniture flying, causing property damage to residences and businesses day and night. Here is some information from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for preventing property damage from strong winds:

Trim or Remove Dead, Damaged, or Rotting Trees and Limbs

High winds can cause trees and branches to fall. Make sure any damaged trees on the property are trimmed or removed regularly. Your home should be at least a full-grown tree’s height away from the base of any tree, usually about 40 feet away.

Fortify Your Roof

Your roof is your first line of defense in a high wind event. Re-adhere any loose shingles and consider impact-resistant shingles when installing a roof. Install roof strappings to anchor the roof framing to the wall framings so the wind can’t lift your roof off your house.

Secure Fencing, Porches, Canopies, and Sheds

Have them inspected and make sure they are firmly attached and in sound structural condition. Secure any parts of fencing that appear weak or loose.

Talk about emergency preparation with your family so that everyone knows what to do. Discussing ahead of time helps reduce fear, particularly for younger children.

4 Tips for Preparing Your Business's Exterior for Storms

4/1/2021 (Permalink)

Exterior of a building, windows covered with storm shutters Protect your business by using storm shutters.

It Is Important To Maintain The Exterior Of Your Building

Your commercial business insurance and relevant riders are all lined up to carefully cover your company for this year's stormy season in Gaslamp Quarter, CA. Your employees are knowledgeable about all of your safety protocols, and you've inspected the interior of your site for vulnerabilities and moved all important documentation out of potential flood zones. How about exterior maintenance? While it might feel like a lost cause to try and perform any repairs or make improvements when big storms are imminent, protecting your building from the outside can make a big difference in how well it withstands a storm's lashing. Here are four tips.

1. Secure Loose Objects
Complete a thorough exterior building inspection, starting with loose objects that could be tossed by winds and cause more damage. Antennas, trash cans, hanging signs, and benches could all become projectiles that damage your building. Secure them outside or bring them indoors.

2. Protect All Glass
From individual windows to large glass store fronts, protect your business by using storm shutters. There are many types available at various price points. At the very least, use duct tape over the glass to prevent shattering.

3. Clean Out Downspouts
Cleaning downspouts, gutters, and drains is probably a part of your regular exterior maintenance routine, but going over them an extra time right before a big storm ensures that water can drain away from the building properly.

4. Look for Entry Points
Keeping your building maintained regularly ensures that you don't have huge repair projects right before a storm. Check the roof, windows, doors, and foundation for any possible points of entry for water. Plus, if you do have to call a water damage restoration company to help clean up after a storm, you can be sure that the damage was a result of the storm and not poor maintenance.
Exterior maintenance of your building is an important part of your storm preparedness plan.

How To Take Care of Roof Damage in Stormy Weather

1/18/2021 (Permalink)

Blue tarp on roof A quick tarp on the roof will prevent water from coming into the home

Here is a common situation that many homeowners face every year: a storm sweeps through their area and causes significant roof damage just as another storm system arrives. Without quick help, the next period of stormy weather will cause even more damage to the home in Little Italy, CA. During this time period, it will probably be difficult to get a roofing contractor to come out to the property and make the needed repairs. One solution is to call for the help of a storm mitigation team in the local area. Trained technicians are used to working in emergency situations and are more likely to arrive on the scene in a matter of hours.

A Temporary Fix

When roof damage is sudden and severe, a temporary fix can reduce any additional damage to a property. A quick board up or a tarp over the roof will prevent water from coming into the home and spoiling insulation. The benefits of this approach are numerous:

  • It gives the property owner peace of mind
  • It allows them to stay in their home
  • It is quick and inexpensive
  • It prevents additional damage
  • It allows for future roof repairs

Wind damage can rip off shingles and leave a property vulnerable to incoming storms. A temporary fix can be a suitable solution at times.

A Permanent Solution
When the situation permits, the homeowner will want to take care of the roofing situation once and for all. This could be in the form of a quality roof repair or it could call for a complete roof replacement. If the roof damage has allowed significant water to enter the home, restoration services will be needed. This includes drying out areas that received moisture and checking for signs of mold growth. Experienced technicians will also replace or restore structural items that were harmed as a result of water damage. When everything is fixed and repaired, the homeowner should be able to face the next storm with confidence.

Mitigation and Restoration: Pivotal Stages of Property Cleanup

Mitigation and Restoration: Pivotal Stages of Property Cleanup

When commercial property owners in San Diego, CA call in a flood cleanup company, it's important to have background knowledge of the experts' jargon. This understanding allows for improved communication about future decisions, permitting proprietors to be a more active participant in the remediation discussions. Certified and credentialed establishments should use the words mitigation and restoration separately, clearly indicating that the work crews have two stages to handle. Both are key to the building's overhaul and getting the place back into operational status. When consulting with teams, here are three things to know about the procedures.

1. What Does Mitigation Include?
Mitigation focuses on fast containment; therefore, secure the property quickly, minimizing additional problems. After a flood, for example, a water restoration company takes several actions to reduce exposure and hazards. The employees can board up exposed windows, tarp over holes in the roofing, remove water-logged materials, create flood cuts, and dry out moisture-heavy rooms. These steps safeguard against further environmental exposures, trespassers, and mold.

2. What Does Restoration Entail?
Once mitigation is completed, the flood cleanup company begins restoration efforts. This stage typically proves slower than the first. While remediation demands swiftness to avoid complications, restoration requires patience and time.
Some assets may be treated rather than thrown away. Content cleaning services, for instance, may salvage electronics, photos and documents. Walls taken down are rebuilt and flooring is replaced. Painting and patching are completed. These services don't happen all at once but in phases.

3. Why Are Both Necessary?
A restoration company cannot skip over either of these key steps. Without remediation, excess water may linger within the carpets and walls. The humidity could allow mold spores to reproduce, only leading to future extractions and disinfection. Restoration in turn brings the place back together, functioning as a whole.
Mitigation and restoration are both necessary. Reach out to a flood cleanup company to assist. The professionals can advise owners about both processes.

Different Kinds of Flood Water Contamination

1/5/2021 (Permalink)

Dishwasher spilling water A spill from the dishwasher could be considered Category 2

Which Type Of Water Is Flooding Your Home

While all types of floods are capable of inflicting massive amounts of water damage on your property, some are just inherently more dangerous than others. Floods are classified according to one of three categories, depending on which types of contaminants are present in the water. Read on to see which type of water is flooding your home in San Diego, CA.

1. Category 1: Clean Water Floods
Much like the name implies, Category 1 floods are characterized by an absence of contaminants. It is possible for these types of floods to transform into more dangerous varieties if outside contaminants are introduced to the water. Clean water floods are typically caused by:

  • Supply line bursts
  • Leaky pipes
  • Rain water or snow melt

2. Category 2: Gray Water Floods
Category 2 floods do contain mild amounts of contamination, but not enough to be considered a biohazard. If left untreated for 48 hours, a Category 2 flood can quickly become a Category 3. Gray water floods are usually a result of:

  • Sump pump failures
  • Malfunctioning household appliances, such as dishwashers and washing machines
  • Broken aquariums

3. Category 3: Black Water Floods
Category 3 floods are the most dangerous types of floods. They're categorized by the presence of human/animal fecal matter, raw sewage, dangerous chemicals and other types of biohazards. These floods are extremely dangerous and can inflict massive amounts of water damage, so you should never attempt to remediate them on your own. They're often caused by:

  • Toilet back flow
  • Sewage overflow
  • Rising groundwater
  • Overflowing banks from rivers or streams

It's important to take all types of water damage seriously, but you need to be especially wary of damage caused by black water floods. If not treated properly, the situation will only get worse and worse. It's best to contact flood remediation experts if your property has been affected by Category 3 flooding.

How FEMA Helps Families After a Storm

11/4/2020 (Permalink)

Hurricane Harvey disaster recovery centers staffed with recovery specialists from FEMA If you experience a disaster, always contact your insurance company in addition to FEMA

There Are Many Ways FEMA Helps Victims Of Damage And Flooding

When a weather disaster happens in San Diego, CA, residents are quick to rally around one another and offer support as families prepare for the process of rebuilding. Another great source of support is the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Often, FEMA's fast-acting and dedicated workers are first on the scene and available to offer aid where applicable.

First Response

When the agency arrives at the scene of a disaster, they will start making appointments with homeowners to assess damage. They are trained to do several things as they are assessing the situation. These tasks include:

  • Scan the scene, including the neighbors.
  • Carry a camera and notepad.
  • Enter the home and document the damage, room by room.

On the initial FEMA visit, homeowners should have documentation that they own the home. Following the initial visit, adjusters will inspect further.
Disasters can create many hazards in a home. As the family looks forward to cleanup, they should also work with disaster restoration specialists who can first assess the situation, and then provide professional clean up services.

Adjusters

The FEMA adjusters will measure rooms and get details regarding damaged materials such as carpets and windows. Everything that needs to be replaced will received detailed documentation. Following documentation, a dollar value is assigned to the value of each claim.
The homeowner's personal insurance will pay out claims first. If the homeowner doesn't have insurance, or is underinsured, then the agency will provide financial assistance to help replace what was lost. It's important to understand that the assistance program won't provide for all losses incurred, but only those deemed to be necessary and serious.
Experiencing a disaster such as a flood is never easy, but anyone going through one should know help is available. If you experience a disaster, always contact your insurance company in addition to FEMA. Combined, they can assist in getting you back on your feet.

Flooding and Risk Factors

The Federal Emergency Management Association offers the National Flood Insurance Program in thousands of communities across the United States. Taking advantage of FEMA NFIP can help you get your life back together after a flood.

Flood Definition

When most people think of flooding, they think of any sort of water damage. FEMA, however, has a stricter definition: at least two properties or two connected acres covered by water or mudflow. Flooding in this sense is often caused by the following:

  • Accumulation of surface water
  • Erosion
  • Overflow of rivers, lakes or other bodies of water

Only flooding damage that fits the above definition is covered by FEMA NFIP. Water damage caused by other events, such as plumbing issues, may be covered by your homeowner’s insurance. It is important to discuss your San Diego home’s unique needs with your insurance agent to make sure you are properly covered.

Flood Risk Factors

While the definition of “flooding” may be narrow, there are a variety of factors that can increase the likelihood of such an event occurring. The following are some such risk factors:

  • Springtime
  • Wildfire damage
  • Low elevation

When the temperatures rise in the springtime, snow often melts, causing flooding. Additionally, frozen ground cannot absorb spring rains, leading to accumulation of surface water. Wildfires also interfere with the ground’s ability to absorb water. Vegetation plays a key role in absorbing water, and when plant life is destroyed by fire, there is greater accumulation of surface water. This effect can last up to five years after a wildfire. Low elevations, where the water cannot runoff easily, are also more prone to flooding.

If FEMA NFIP is available in your area, you can purchase reliable flood insurance through the program. Although this and other flood insurance policies can reduce the financial burden of flood damage, homeowners may still feel overwhelmed by the restoration process. Selecting a certified restoration company can make the process go much more smoothly.

6 Ways To Reduce Outside Flood Damage

Outside flooding triggered by heavy storms causes havoc, contributing to harmful erosion and polluting runoff. In worst-case scenarios, rainfall can cause structural damage to your house by seeping into your basement. The following are a few methods you can employ to protect yourself in San Diego, CA, before facing an imminent downpour.

1. Diversionary Systems
Water redirection is the most basic form of drainage. Depressions known as swales are excellent at this task. Create one by lining your backyard’s lowest point with rocks and plants so that streams are redirected into a dry well or garden bed that is able to sustain large amounts of rain.

2. Hefty Mulching
Outside flooding tosses around lighter mulch. Use heavier chips and reduce your post-precipitation cleanup responsibilities.

3. Flower Placement
Plants that line the outside of gardens drain quickly, whereas those in the middle bear the brunt of intense disruptions. Arrange yours so that plants most effective at soaking up water are placed in the center.

4. Strategic Downspouts
Check that your gutters direct rain storm deposits into a location where the overall accumulation will not spill over. If you believe your downspout’s landing spot could result in difficulties, installing a diverter can solve your rain drainage situation.

5. Pavement Alternatives
Driveways are contributors to runoff. If yours is made of asphalt or solid concrete, trade it out for gravel or spaced paving. Eco-friendly individuals should consider replacing their entranceways entirely and converting them into extended lawn space.

6. Green Roofing
For novelty, you cannot beat topping your residence with grass to soak up rainwater. Of course, this option only works with flat-topped or gently sloped buildings, but this approach also improves insulation and increases roof longevity.
Uncontrolled outside flooding causes backyard messes and sometimes leads to significant home damage. Head off needing a commercial water restoration service to make things right by setting the optimal conditions for severe weather.
